An unashamed purveyor of Broadway-style theatrical and melodic ’70s-influenced pop, singer/songwriter Julian Perretta has been hailed as the 21st century Gilbert O’Sullivan. Born in London in 1989, at the age of eight he began playing The Beatles songs on the guitar with his father, before switching to the piano. After studying Shakespeare at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, he joined Mark Ronson on his European tour, performing the producer’s interpretation of The Smiths’ classic “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before.” A year later he supported Beyoncé and Girls Aloud on their arena tours, was championed on Perez Hilton’s influential blog, and signed a deal with Universal Music. His debut album, 2010’s Stitch Me Up, featuring the single “Wonder Why,” was recorded with former Jamiroquai members Matt Johnson and Rob Harris, and reached number 30 in France, where Perretta now lives. Two years later, he collaborated with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike onthe single “Body Talk.” In 2016, Perretta returned with his sophomore full-length album, Karma, featuring the single “Miracle.” After a string of solo hits across Europe, and from working with producers like Mark Ronson to touring with Beyoncé as well as childhood friend Ed Sheeran, 2019 is set to be a big year for Julian Perretta. The British singer/songwriter returns with a highly anticipated remake of Ginuwine’s 1996 hit “Pony” featuring Atlanta-born trap superstar Lil Baby.
